The Creston Valley Farmers’ Market offers a unique community of growers, artisans, craftspeople, and entertainment. Bring the family and enjoy the benefits of eating fresh, eating real, and shopping local in the heart of the Kootenays year round!
The Creston Valley Farmers’ Market (CVFM) is a project under the Creston Valley Food Action Coalition (CVFAC), a registered non-profit society in the Kootenay Region of BC. The CVFM operates a weekly market eight months of the year from May through December, and monthly markets January through April.
It provides one of the only venues for small scale producers and artisans to sell direct to consumers in the Creston Valley, but it’s been a community’s labour of love that has gotten it this far. In 2003, the first vendors started gathering for a local summer market at the Endicott Centre under a canopy of trees. It then moved up to beside the Community Garden and Town Hall for 2005/06 and ran by local volunteers. One of the Rotary Clubs in town took over the coordination of the market in 2007, and it relocated to beside Millennium Park, where the summer market remained until 2012. An indoor market was introduced in 2009 at Morris Greenhouse, providing a welcoming atmosphere for the indoor market home for the past eight years. In 2010, the Creston Valley Food Action Coalition agreed to take over the market and provide the backbone support it needs. Since 2010, the market has grown leaps and bounds and well documented through the annual reports available on our website.
Over 130 unique vendors participate at the Creston Valley Farmers’ Market throughout the year. Our vendors showcase the incredible agricultural and cottage industries of the Creston Valley. Our farm and food producers offer a year-round selection of fruits, vegetables, meats, eggs, honey, baked goods, artisan preserves, along with local wine and liquor products. Our artisans are some of the best in the Valley, with pottery, paintings, soaps, textiles, books and more for your pleasure. You’ll get to meet the person behind the product.
Shopping at the market is so much more than just stocking your fridge with local produce (although, that’s pretty darn awesome!) It’s about the community connections that develop, it’s about putting your money where your home is, and it’s about fostering a future that’s a little bit brighter for future generations. You are also helping contribute to a growing local economy. $1.72 million locally every year are spent at our market and surrounding businesses. Your purchases at the market help keep dollar circulating in this beautiful community.
The CVFM is a proud member of the BC Association of Farmers’ Markets (BCAFM), and celebrates that everything sold at the market is made, baked and grown locally.
